In a move to position Nigeria as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu engaged in high-level discussions with Google CEO Sundar Pichai in Paris on Wednesday.
Recognizing the transformative potential of AI and cloud computing, both parties explored opportunities to equip Nigeria’s workforce with essential digital skills, promote AI-driven research, and enhance cloud adoption in industries ranging from finance to healthcare.
The initiative is designed to accelerate economic growth while ensuring Nigeria remains competitive in the global digital landscape.
Google’s CEO reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s technological advancement, emphasizing the country’s potential to lead AI innovation in Africa.
“Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to lead in AI and digital innovation in Africa. Google is excited to continue working with the Nigerian government to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and economic growth,” Pichai stated.
President Tinubu emphasized that this collaboration aligns seamlessly with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic diversification through technology and industrialization.
He reiterated his commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that attracts global tech investment and empowers local talent.
The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will provide oversight for the partnership, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will work alongside private sector stakeholders to ensure its successful implementation.
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who was also present at the meeting, described the engagement as a major step forward in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring AI and digital technologies create tangible benefits for businesses and citizens across the country.
With continued discussions and deeper collaboration, Nigeria and Google are set to drive a new wave of digital transformation, unlocking new opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and technological leadership on the African continent.
